Music: “Freedom, by Frankl” (2024)

Here is an example of finding a song in the moment, based on what bass and drums I’m feeling, finding a natural groove on top of it, and finally, finding some lyrics, this time a quotation from the great existentialist psychologist that just happened to be on the table next to me.

It’s also a showcase of what happens when I don’t plan my solos, and just go with the moment-to-moment approach–this one led me, for some strange reason, into tapping and Eddie Van Halen noise land, something I never would consciously have sought.

The solo sprang instead from something organic, which is a kind of “responsibility” to the mood of the moment.
